Things I Learned in July

Thanks again to Emily Freeman of Chatting at the Sky for hosting another fun linkup! I connected with so many new blogger friends (Hi Guys!) with the June linkup, I’m tickled she’s continuing the series!

Things I Learned In July

Here are a few things I learned this July:

1) I’m awful at Photo A Day challenges.

Blimey Cow ran a Photo-a-Day challenge this month and I thought it would be super fun to try. And it was! For the first 18 days I managed to post a photo. Then I went AWOL. You would think that taking a simple picture everyday, of something you’ve been told to take a picture of, wouldn’t be hard. But it was. Live and learn.

2) My husband is a surprising fellow!

As I mentioned recently, Ben absolutely surprised me with our 1/2 anniversary get away! He found a quaint B&B just over an hour away from our house and whisked me away for the weekend. I was so pleasantly surprised by his thoughtfulness and careful planning. Still sweeping me off my feet, after all these years ; )

3) Pregnancy brain is real. Raise awareness.

I’m not joking y’all. Pregnancy brain is so real. I have never gotten so many people confused with each other, said crazier stuff, or completely forgotten as many important details as in these last few weeks! And we still have to make it until early January! I can only hope that mommy brain is better but, from my observations, I’m not holding my breath.

4) Prenatal yoga is slightly creepy, but fun. Mostly fun, still kinda creepy.

I tried something new this month: prenatal yoga. I’ve never been pregnant before and I’ve never practiced yoga so I thought I’d knock out two life experiences in one swoop. Though the ambient music and low voices were slightly unnerving, I kind of enjoyed myself. The session was highly relaxing and, believe it or not, a serious work out! (I am shockingly uncoordinated.) Though I’ve always been a bit wary of yoga (and still did refrain from thanking the instructor with the traditional Namaste), being introduced to a community of fellow mamas-to-be was really special. I’ll be giving prenatal yoga a few more tries!

5) The Blog Planning Kit from HowTheyBlog.com is ah-mazing.

Though I’ve been blogging since 2010, I’ve never clearly focused my work. That’s all changing, and largely thanks to The Blog Planning Kit from Kat Lee at HowTheyBlog.com. This kit seriously gets rave reviews in my book. Two enthusiastic thumbs up! A++++ If you’re a fellow blogger, you’ll appreciate how Kat takes her years of blogging experience and breaks the bigger picture into bite-sized, actionable steps.

I’m still working through my planning kit, but hoping that by taking a step back and evaluating what it is I hope to do with Victoria’s Ramblings will enrich the community. And, let me take this moment to say how grateful for each and every one of you who faithfully read! Truly, I’m very honored.

What did you learn in July? Anything especially memorable or just a random factoid?

Great list. I have really enjoyed Kat’s How the Blog interviews, and I love her “prayer prompt” tweets — that is one of the things on my list.
Stopping by from Emily’s tonight 🙂

Hello blogging friend! I love that Emily practices what she preaches and ‘builds a good bench’, you know? Great to meet you! (I’ll be hopping over to 3-D Lessons for Life!) And YES Kat has been a lifesaver for me! I’m looking forward to cranking out some good planning in the coming days.

Hey hey! The Kit is TOTALLY worth it! And it was just $10, which isn’t bad. (You can get a copy by clicking the link in the post – it’ll take you directly to an info page explaining why the Kit is so Earth-shattering!) Thanks for stopping by, new friend!

Hooray for surprises! Ha ha, yep pregnancy brain and mommy brain. I think that mommy brain mainly stems from major lack of sleep.

Ummmm, I literally JUST finished working my way through the HowTheyBlog kit! Loved it. No doubt I will be challenged to be consistent with it, but I’m excited to feel like I have my direction and goals in writing… Now to see how it pans out for me! 🙂 I can’t wait to hear how it goes for you (and what you end up thinking of it in the long term).
