Haters Gonna Hate, Hate, Hate, Hate (Self Publishers)
This guy doesn’t want to read my self-published book, and that’s okay.
This dude thinks most self-published books (for children, anyway) are pretty terrible. That’s fine.
It’s no secret that many in the ‘book business’ believe self publishers are ruining the literary landscape. That self-pub authors are among the unwashed masses. These are also probably the sort people who eat un-frosted Pop-Tarts and hate Christmas. You do not need to care what these people say.
I mean, seriously, Jane Austen wouldn’t get published by today’s industry.
Consider, never before have authors been able to so effectively get their content in front of the eyes of readers. That’s a real gift.
And a challenge. It’s a challenge for us writers to produce the best content we can and serve our readers well.
Readers have always decided what they want to read. With self-publishing, an author can directly gauge if a reader is pleased with their content, without the stress of pleasing a publisher in between.
Truly, don’t worry about the haters. They’re gonna hate.
You just focus on your work and delighting your audience.
That’s what this whole writing gig is about, anyway.

So I was reading a self published book the other day and it was GOD AWFUL.
Like, laugh out loud terrible.
And as I was lamenting about this book to a friend, she said “Yes, this one is awful, but have you ever heard of Victoria Wilson? Her self published writing is actually pretty great. Like, really great.”
True story, word for word. Thought you should know you’re a bright light in a sea of some dim bulbs.

And you’re right…I should have addressed the fact that some self-published works are, in fact, awful. Maybe I should write a post about that…
