When The Man Comes Around

I’ve found that conversations with my coworkers, in a secular environment, often result in the most spiritually significant insights.

You may have “those days” at your workplace. The days where not much gets done. When the clock goes two ticks forward and one tick back. When you piddle but don’t produce. Friday was one such day. Walking out of the office after that painfully long day, my coworker and I commented on the very strong work ethic of another employee. Even on “those days”, she is the one who will find the hidden tasks and gently reminds us all to be working by example.

“On Judgement Day, God’s gonna ask her everything she’s done and she’ll be able to tell Him!” My coworker exclaimed. “Heck, when He asks me what I’ve done its going to be a crap list.”


We often have this imagine in our heads of a doomsday judgement day. Us measly humans trembling before a grandfather-bearded God. While I do believe that Earth and time will end as we know it (refer to Ben’s truly wonderful Revelation series), it won’t be in that caricature-kind of way. God is going to display His might in ways we have never seen, ways we can’t imagine. What are you going to say to holy and infinite God when you see Him?


I am going to say “Jesus.” The whole terror of a judgement day is that we know we haven’t lived as we ought. We haven’t kept God’s perfect law (and face it, if we can’t even keep our cars under the speed limit I’m guessing we haven’t perfectly obeyed the Author of Creation). The ONLY thing which will please the Lord when we meet Him is to claim His Son. We won’t be able to tell of our perfect deeds on judgement day, but we can say that we’ve trusted in the name of Jesus to appease God’s righteous wrath. The best part? God has already accepted Christ’s sacrifice.
