24 Things in 24 Years
Today, I turn 24.
Here are 24 things I’ve learned since 1989.
- Know when to stop. To stop talking, to stop listening, to stop running.
- Reality may not be better than your expectations, but it will be better for you.
- Rest is not a four letter word. Well, it is – but you know what I mean.
- Prevent cavities. Floss daily. Don’t ask.
- Marriage is not about you. It’s not even really about your spouse, it’s about Jesus.
- Unexpected surprises don’t have to be unwelcome ones.
- Baby bumps make wonderful accessories.
- Stick to your guns. Even if its costly.
- Work hard. It pays.
- Budget. It, too, pays.
- Don’t delay difficult conversations.
- Laughing with your spouse is one of the greatest joys on the planet.
- Marrying your best friend doesn’t mean you’ll always see eye to eye. But it does mean you get to grow in patience and love; wanting their good over your own.
- Plan well, but know your plans can fall to pieces in a moment. (And it’s okay. See Proverbs 16:9)
- Go out of your way to express gratitude.
- You can’t choose your family, but you can choose how you treat them. (Choose generously.)
- Community is built. So roll up your sleeves and grab a hammer.
- Take criticism with grace.
- Take compliments with humility.
- Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is stay, not leave.
- Make space to be creative. It won’t just happen.
- Freely admit when you’ve been in the wrong.
- Serve God, love others.
- There is no greater joy than pursuing God with your whole heart.
Fabulous hair, even back then! 🙂 And those cheeks are pretty darn awesome for a wee lass!
