Relentless Mothering

The pace of motherhood
is unrelenting.
Unceasing.
Downright grueling.

At the drop of
a baby’s cry,
fling your feet
out of bed
one more time.

Do it again.
Again.
And again.

Exhaustion masks
the ecstasy
of a gummy smile.

Sure, it’s rewarding.
But when your back
is breaking
from the weight
of rocking
a fussy baby,
it’s hard to pat yourself.

Fortified by grace,
you do it all again.
Sustained by Christ,
you do it gladly.

Mothering is relentless,
but so is a mother’s love.
