Day 19) Share an excellent piece of writing that you’ve read recently.

The month of October has been a bit of a crazy train for me and my husband. (So, of course, I thought it would be a great month to do a daily writing challenge! LOL) In addition to normal life responsibilities, we’ve had two weeks of out-of-town travel and several other odds and ends like a baby shower, needing to register for the baby shower, a wedding, two birthday parties, and sometime soon we need to assemble a crib that I’ve been tripping over every morning!

I think I’ve asked myself, “When did we get so busy!?” every day since October 1.

That’s why Rev. Kevin DeYoung’s new book Crazy Busy hit bookshelves at a brilliant time. We picked up a copy right away.

As the tagline promises, it was mercifully short and I read it in just a few sittings. Though I thought I might share a more creative piece of writing for this prompt, I couldn’t think of anything better to share.

A few of my favorite takeaways are below. I really can’t recommend this book enough!

“No doubt some Christians need to be shaken out of their lethargy and to get busy for the kingdom. But many Christians are too busy already.”

“It’s easy to find people who think work is good and leisure is bad (i.e., you rest to work). You can also find people who think leisure is good and work is bad (i.e., you work to rest). But according to the Bible, both work and rest an be good if they are done to the glory of God.”

On how we can be more busy than necessary with raising our kids:

“Certainly, there are lots of ways that good parents make their kids a little more manageable from day to day, but even the kid hooked on Angry Birds who just downed a pack of Fun Dip and is now watching his fifth Pixar movie of the week still has a decent shot at not being a sociopath.”

From the concluding paragraph:

“We won’t say no to more craziness until we can say yes to more Jesus.”

“It’s not wrong to be tired. It’s not wrong to feel overwhelmed. It’s not wrong to go through seasons of complete chaos. What’s wrong — and heartbreakingly foolish and wonderfully avoidable — is to live a life with more craziness than we want because we have less Jesus than we need.

As I said this writing wasn’t especially creative, but it is excellent. I’m not affiliated with Crossway, but I thought this book was too good not to share with y’all. Head over to your local bookstore or Amazon.com to get a copy of Crazy Busy!

Another blogger recommended this book.. but I didn’t know the man who wrote it was a Christian. Definitely sounds like a good one.

I’m glad it could be an encouragement, Sara! DeYoung is solid and I’ve learned a lot from his teaching. Would love to know if you end up reading Crazy Busy!
