31 Days of Writing Creatively
Join me for a wildly, wonderfully, totally creative writing journey.
I’ll be linking up with 100s of other bloggers over at The Nesting Place. The challenge is to write on one topic everyday for the month of October. (If you want to join in the fun with your own 31 Day idea, check out The Nester’s #31Day Tips!)
My topic, writing creatively as you have gathered, has two parts:
1) I will post and respond to a creative writing prompt every day for 31 days.
2) I invite you to also respond to the prompt and post your piece (if it’s shorter) in the comments or (if it’s longer) via a link back to your site.
Buckle up buttercup, it’s about to get all creative up in here!
The Prompts
Day 3) Write an ode to an article of clothing.
Day 4) Wild Card (Write Anything!)
Day 5) The Moviegoer
“You’re at the movie theater and it’s the climax of the summer’s big blockbuster hit. And someone is talking on their cell phone. When you go to confront them, you find that it is your boss. What do you say to them?” (from Writer’s Digest)
Day 7) Write an open letter to anyone.
Day 9) A First
“Describe a “first” (first apartment, first kiss, first time driving a car, first lie, first big success, first roller coaster ride, first time in this setting). Include as many details as possible, being sure to include an aspect relating to each of the five senses.” (from Warren Wilson College)
Day 10) Writing Projects
Are you working on any writing projects? Refine and share a few lines from that! (If not, sketch out some ideas for an upcoming project.)
Day 11) You turn a corner and are surprised to find.
Day 12) Write one sentence about one thing you saw today.
Day 13) Instagram Image
Write a creative response to any image on my Instagram feed.
Day 16) Write a monologue for the character you developed yesterday.
Day 17) Write about pulling an all-nighter.
Day 18) “My jaw dropped to the floor. I couldn’t believe…”
Day 20) Daycare Day
What thoughts run through a baby’s mind through the course of a day at daycare?
Day 21) Character iTunes Playlist
Think about the character you developed on Day 15, what top 10 songs are on his/her iTunes playlist?
Day 24) Write a poem in 140 characters or less.
If you are on ‘The Twitters”, tweet it!
Day 25) Bumper Sticker
“You’ve been hired by a bumper sticker manufacturer to come up with ideas. Write a clever or witty phrase you’d love to see on a bumper sticker. (If you want, write several.)” (from Writer’s Digest)
Day 26) Create and respond to your own prompt.
Day 28) Pursue an Idea
Did you stumble upon any interesting ideas through the past 27 prompts? If so, use this day to pursue one of those.
Day 29) What’s the spookiest thing you’ve ever done?
Day 31) The worst Halloween costume you’ve ever seen.

LOVE this idea and it may be the jumpstart I need to get back into writing. Although I may have to switch blog sites as I still can’t seem to upload any graphics 🙁 …. But I wanted you to know that I am accepting the challenge AND I also have incorporated into our homeschool lesson plans. This morning, C. wrote an “Ode to Pizza” and D. – an “Ode to Nachos”. When one of them used the word “cascading” to describe the cheese’s route on the chips, I nearly jumped for joy – they are young writers using more descriptive verbs just like I try to teach them!!! Thank you for inspiring!

Good post. I learn something new and challenging on websites I stumbleupon on a daily basis.
It’s always helpful to read content from other authors and use a little something from other websites.
