Just Killing Time

words-with-friends-iconBing! Bloop!

I’d heard computers make funny sounds before, but never that often! His fingers expertly flew over the lightweight keyboard to his Macbook Air.

As soon as I realized I’d been staring, so did he.

There’s nothing more awkward than being caught people watching…by the person you’ve been watching.

“I was trying to figure out where that noise was coming from,” I lamely offered. Trying to figure out where the noise was coming from in the 2-patron occupied Starbucks, that’s all.

“O, yeah. I’m just playing Words with Friends,” he said. “It’s like Scrabble, but it’s not.”

I nodded.

“I’m playing with some of my high school buddies. They’re all surprised I’m so good at this game because I was pretty dumb in high school.” He shrugged, then returned to his game. “I’m just killing time.”

How has time offended us that we murder it so often? What might we accomplish if we let time live once in a while?
